Heres the low down on this fella. We've had Mikey since May of this year, and he was used previously in a camp/riding school environment for a few years then just trails. When he came to us he needed some weight, still does need some muscle tone, but hes a big horse and very big boned, 16h on the stick and really stocky. So Mikey was here in may and we got along well together and a family came for their first horse and bought him, did a pre purchase(which we have on video) he was great here the little girl rode him in the arena and then they took him home a few weeks later after getting to know him better. Got a call about a month later that she was scared of him had fallen off and that he was being pushy and they wanted something different, preferably smaller, for her as she was afraid of the big guy. This was her first horse and he was the only horse there, and Im not sure exactly what happened but he didnt buck her off she fell off when he went trotting around the open pasture she was riding in and then started to canter and she bailed. Anyway, Mikey back here, all tarnished and "whats wrong with that horse now that hes back there at that far for sale again" ... meanwhile, he trail rides GREAT. Saddlebags, through the woods over trees through big creeks and along the road and all that. Great on trails. He will move out and he jumps but really doesnt know exactly what he is doing... we had a few critiques on the video of him jumping thats on my site where it looks like "he is unhappy, looks back sore, looks like he needs a chiro" but really he has a bit of a 'tude when you ask him to do something he doesnt particularly want to do. Nothing nasty, but he will duck out towards the fence if you dont have a strong leg, without a crop he will sull up and not want to canter, spoiled behaviour. He doesnt do that outside of the pen, its mainly associated in/with an arena. He might need some chiro or supplements or something to get him in shape if someone wanted to do strictly that with him, but he trail rides without any of that and passed his pre purchase without any glitches and we have noticed its mainly associated with his disgruntlement of the ring. I think he may have picked up a few tricks at the camp/lesson barn and tries to flow through into anyone that comes to see him, because one person wants to tack him up english and go over fences and the next one wants him to jog around like a pleasure horse western and the next one wants to trail ride but decides he walks too fast when hes out by himself. So he hasnt found his click yet. But we are trying. He doesnt need to bounce around sale barns or go to a family where he wont fit, but if someone has some horsey knowledge and can correct minor/small disgruntlements that he tosses out here and there from whatever mood hes in, he really is a good horse. A sound horse. One that rides off alone, with a group, on wagon trains, through all sorts of terrain and one that is steady and safe in sketchy situations. Hes just not too fond of the arena I dont think. He has nice form over fences, maybe he wants to go hilltopping or be a foxhunter. Hes big enough for that. Has good gears too. Even has knowledge of changes.
Heres the thing. He belongs to a client and hes been on my dime(board and maintenance wise) since May, and he needs to find his place... someone that he fits with. Client is ready to listen to an offer or possibly trade if the horse will work for our program.
So, tag, call, text or PM me if you have any ideas. Really this is not something Im trying to push off on anyone at all, and hes not a "bad" horse. He just needs the right fit. Hes not going to work for a beginner child that he can push buttons with and do his own thing, but an intermediate with some lesson/trainer guidance I think he could get over his little issues and really make a star in the ring. Or just someone that wants a steady trail horse thats not going to ask him to do arena work english.
Hes also learning to drive and doing very well at that. Located at the farm in Mt. Airy, NC 336-374-0296
