Here you will find the details on the thoroughbreds offered in this amazing opportunity from the late Deborah Day's Estate of Dobson, North Carolina. All paperwork is in hand and/or available for registration and transfer to buyers.
Bidding will open February 2nd, 2026 and will commence on March 1st, 2026. All horses are subject to acceptance of the final bid. It is NOT an absolute auction. Notation will be added in the bid section if a satisfactory amount is bid BEFORE the auction ends, as a courtesy, but that does not mean the horses have a reserve. The goal of the estate is to obtain the highest bids offered and the best homes for the horses. Bidding will be in increments of minimum of $100
All horses are all current on negative coggins, with the exception of Painting Freedom, who was purchased before her passing, and is offered here, and coggins can be obtained if bid is successful.
Transportation and/or boarding arrangements awaiting transport can be discussed if you are interested in bidding. Boarding can be available by the day until transportation is arranged. Horses may be vet checked at the expense of the interested party if the bid is accepted. All soundness and information is accurate to the best of the estate and Double Creek Farm(Ralena Smith) knowledge. The estate has the authority to transfer horses paperwork to the new buyer.
Terms: Payment must be made within 72hrs of auction close, by bank transfer, credit card, or cashapp.
If you have any questions about any of the horses, you may contact Ralena Smith at 336-374-0296 call or text.

"Dude" as Debbie affectionately called him, was her little baby boy. I know that she purchased him as a young prospect, and had intentions on showing him, but life decided other things that called for attention. I do not think he was broke to ride, but I am not sure of that entirely. He is sound to breed and his legs are sound, but he does have a cloudy eye/cataract that has covered the eye with a thin film and turned it blue. There is no drainage, hair loss indicating prior draining, or shrinking of the ocular area which leads me to believe he has had this for some time. He seems to be completely acclimated to the loss or restricted vision in that eye. He is not difficult to handle, for leading or turnout, being around in the stall, or handling for breeding and has been live covered as well as pasture/paddock turnout bred. To my knowledge his last foal produced, intentinally, was the buckskin overo filly listed below, out of the thoroughbred/APHA mare Shimmering Scene. Dude has been DNA and genetic tested through APHA and Jockey Club. He is also color panel tested, as cremello, see below. AA (Agouti - homozygous) ee (red based) because his base registry is with the Jockey Club, he can cross onto thoroughbred mares to produce thoroughbreds(they can also get APHA papers)
Handler in walkaround video is 6'2, Dude stands almost 16h. Videos and pictures were taken November 2025 and he looks the same, hes in the barn.

Lot #2 - RHF Eccentric
2018 Thoroughbred stallion (can also register with APHA easily)

"E" was bred by Reed Hill Farm, and is by R H F Harlequin out of the mare Wavy Needle. He was purchased as a 4(I believe) year old, and Debbie had big plans to get him shown and then later breed. That is the only reason he has not sired anything yet. She wanted to get him shown first. Sadly, that didn't come to pass but it was not E's shortcomings, it was time and health that prohibited him from being shown. I am unsure if he has any under saddle training, but I do not think he does. At least he is a clean sound slate for someone. He is tested homozygous W20 so he will pass a copy to his foals which will allow color registries to utilize that genetically. He is big, Handler in walkaround video is 6'2, he stands approx 16.2h. Videos and pictures were taken November 2025 and he looks the same, hes in the barn. He is sound all the way and will vet. Sire pictures by Carolyn Reed of Reed Hill Farm.

2013 Jockey Club/APHA bay overo mare

This is the dam to the buckskin overo filly that is coming a 2 yr old, she is currently open by choice. Debbie bred and raised the buckskin overo filly below, and did not have issues, but a prior owner said this mare can be very protective when she has a foal. I do not believe she is broke to ride, but I do not know. She seems sound, leg wise, and is sound to breed, she leads and handles well, will get an official measurement I would say she is at least 16h.
The mares have put on a considerable amount of weight since the slick pictures/video. The one with the fence video and they are fuzzy is current, taken at the end of January 2026
The "slick" pictures were taken this past summer, before the horses were in a conditioning program. The fuzzy video was taken the week of the snowstorm, it is current. I will get new videos and movement footage, and still shots as soon as we can.

2023 (UPDATE CORRECTED YEAR) Jockey Club and APHA eligible - mare

This beautiful and elegant filly is sired by Blonde Surfer Dude, and is out of the above mare, Shimmering Scene. Her details and breeding information is on file with The Jockey Club for Thoroughbred registration, but the fees will need to be paid, around $1200-$1500. She is sound, was a later (summer, I believe) baby, and she is broke to lead and tie. "Slick" videos were taken in the fall of 2025, fuzzy pasture pictures are current, we will get new video and pictures as soon as the weather straightens out. I have not put a stick on her but would comfortably say she is at 15h. See short movement clips above and below.

2012 Jockey Club Chestnut Mare

"Emmie" is a 2012 Jockey Club registered mare, who has had a foal by Painting Freedom (was dominant white) she is sound but I am unsure if she was under saddle or not. She spent some time in Florida before coming to North Carolina. She is open by choice.
Storm Cat and Seattle Slew, she has racing lines that add a great option to someones' program, whether you are breeding for speed or for performance.

This is a big, elegant mare due to foal March 2026, she is in foal to Painting Freedom(below) for a thoroughbred/APHA/Pinto eligible foal. Pasture pictures and above video are current(end of January 2026). This mare handles gently, and breeds easily on the first cycle. She is the dam of R H F Gabriel, that can be seen on the for sale page(stallion) belonging to Lucy Taylor. You can see part of her race record below, as she was on the track as a youngster. This is a great chance for someone to get a mare in foal without the wait! She is sound, and due March 2026. All paperwork is in order to register the resulting foal. This is a big mare, 16.1 at least.

2003 APHA/Jockey Club Stallion - Painting Freedom
The unmistakable stallion - Painting Freedom - is offered in this platform, purchased before Debbie's passing, he is in my (Ralena Smith's) name, he did get all 3 mares bred to him last year in foal on the first cycle. He is gentle in the stall and to handle, I hand breed him with a lungeline and he is very respectable to the mare. He is sound, but he did sustain an injury as a youngster and was never ridden. He has progeny all over the US and Canada competing in various events from barrel racing/speed to eventing , hunters and dressage. I am only offering him here because I really don't think I can do him justice. I have several people interested in breeding to him this season, and want shipping, (APHA/AQHA mares) but I do not have the work schedule to accommodate collection on a regular basis, the pictures and videos are older. I will take his blanket off and get some new ones when the weather cooperates better. He is currently eating alfalfa free choice and synergize by tribute. He is 16.2h and does not carry the grey or roan gene, the differences in color are from the dominate white gene, he is tested Ee and aa, W20 and W22, dominant white. He is 8 panel negative and is negative for overo, so he can safely cross onto overo mares.
If a successful bid is placed and he gets a new home, the new owner will need to be able to have him collected and shipped to satisfy a mare owner that is already on the book for this season. PM or text/call for more details.
You can find a TON of information about this stallion on google by searching his name in quotations, and adding stallion, or "by" in the front of the search.

(why am I offering Freeodm: I bought a place of my own 2 years ago, and have been building everything from the ground up, there was a house here but had to clear the land, build fences and paddocks, build horse barns, a TON of things still left to do. I sold most of my mares when I moved and didnt even breed anything that year. I have been building my herd back but I do not have the designated space to accommodate mares for outside clients as well as my own until some renovations and build projects are completed.
