Several people have asked why we do not put a price on all our horses or why we list them at a dollar on some of the for sale sites. 

We are not trying to manipulate 'you' as a buyer in thinking that we are giving away a horse, its not meant to be a dirty trick to get you to the site, but there are a few reasons why we do this. 

I've listed the primary ones below so you can understand our thoughts behind this process and answer some of your questions:


a) Sometimes, it is because the horse is new to the market or new to us, and we're really not sure what angle or direction we're going to go yet with them, and the price is 'up in the air' meaning, if youre interested once we put them out there, call or email and we can talk! Thats the BEST way to get a GOOD deal on a GREAT horse.  Sometimes we get one on trade, and have a figure value on the horse that it can be bought outright for RIGHT NOW...before we do much pondering or decisions on what they'd be best suited for, pour a lot of ad money into and/or training or conditioning...

b) These things cost to feed and take care of. Not all the time but sometimes we get a horse in and put some detail on the site that we have the 'brand new horse' but not much more than a pic or two. Sometimes this is because its not in a bad shape, but not in the shape it could be in...for example we get a horse thats been turned out in the pasture for months and its coat is 'toasted' and not as glossy and bright as its capable of being. Or it needs some weight and muscle tone(not poor, but sometimes they come in and are out of shape- too thin or too fat...) we will SOMETIMES offer them to someone that has the capability or the means(boarding facility that can help, for example) to get a better deal on the horse before we have to keep them 3 months and get in the shape we want them to be in. 

 c) Oftentimes we toss a horse out on 'the market' that is here on consignment and it is the starting point of the consignor(owner of the horse) to start at this point. Sometimes they go on and sell as theyre targeted specifically towards a certain direction/price range/talent, but if the horse 'sits' on the market for a bit and the owners are at a NEGOTIABLE/make us an offer point, then instead of flat out putting a dollar amount on a horse, its changed to a dollar which means BRING US YOUR REASONABLE OFFERS. Doesnt mean $500 will get you a $5k horse. But it does mean that the horse may have been a certain price, and now can be purchased less or on terms(payments) at this time. 

d) The last main reason we do this is that the horse is in the middle of a 'makeover' either in physical condition(taking a pasture horse and completely turning them into a show horse/training fitting/etc) OR the horse is now at the trainers, which costs us money, and although its factored into the pricing we toss out there it can fluctuate.
 So, with all that said, don't always assume a dollar or no price is out of reach, just inquire, and you may be surprised what the right fit will be able to do!
